Within every MBE fact pattern, there’s a fact (maybe more than one fact but at least one fact) that has been placed into the pattern to ensure, with *certainty, that one answer is better than all the others.

Think of it this way: it’s the kind of fact that would have been left out if the goal were instead to elicit arguments for both sides. Like on essays, for example. In the artificial community of MBE Land, all legal issues have one definite winning argument. And, so, the game is to spot in the fact pattern the line that ensures one of the answers beats all the others. And then choose that answer.
